Boss Prep: One-Step Equations

CheckSubstitute the answer into the original and confirm both sides match.

Solve −8y = −56.
One move, and both numbers are negative. Work it out before you read on.
✓ −8y ÷ (−8) = −56 ÷ (−8)
✓ y = 7
✓ CHECK: −8(7) = −56
Negative divided by negative is positive, so y = 7. The check is what turns a guess into an answer.
